My Body Knows What It’s Doing!

Happy Saturday to everyone and welcome back to the blog! It is a beautiful and sunny day here in Elizabethtown and it is slated to get up to 92 degrees today, damn! Right now, however, it is the cool crisp morning air that we all love so well and the birds are up singing and harmonizing and I have a huge cup of coffee to get the day started right! Today is my mother’s birthday and she is the most amazing and loving human being I have ever known and I appreciate her more every year I am on this earth, Happy Birthday Momma! Let’s get into it.

Yesterday I had a really nice workout and the great thing is I added my shoulders into my workout with chest and triceps so I’m really excited about the new growth potential because my shoulders need work! The entire routine was about 40 minutes or so but I pushed it and did the best I could do, plus I fasted as I am now and those workouts are the best! My gym has opened the outside pool so while the parking is a little more packed the gym itself actually is a little less crowded so I’m able to get to just about anything a lot easier than when school is in session. It’s weird how sometimes I sweat super bad and other times I don’t as much even with the same type of intensity, I really need to do more research into this! Anyway, my workouts are coming along just fine and I am still rotating between walking and days at the gym. Sometimes I’ll take a day off and other times I just keep going every single day, I just try to listen to my body and not my mind because my mind still tries to find a way not to workout.lol. It never fails that while I may have to talk myself into going to the gym and walking I have yet to feel bad about it afterward! In fact, I always feel amazing which makes it that much more frustrating to fight with myself about going in the first place, I mean I made the goals so I need to follow the plan.lol

Screenshot_20180616-092726.jpgScreenshot_20180616-092134.jpgScreenshot_20180616-093027.jpgScreenshot_20180616-093027.png

My diet has been really exciting lately because not only have I been trying new recipes but I have been fasting really well lately! Typically I eat between 2500 to 3000 calories a day but with my recent alternate day fasting I’m only really feasting every other day a basically so I’m giving my body time to rest and properly digest my food as well as time to burn stored fat! I’ve been doing keto and low carb for awhile and the most powerful thing I have discovered in my journey is fasting! It’s not even close because when we eat is just as important as what we eat! This makes sense but for an obese guy like me to truly understand this way not only eye-opening but it completely changed the way I view eating. Now I feel less worried about how much I eat and focus more on the times I’m not eating and that has made all the difference in the world! In a feed state(eating) you are basically not burning fuel you are storing it, when you fast(not eating) you are burning fuel, it’s just that simple! Think about how powerful that is, if you give your body time it will run out of stored glucose in your liver and have no choice but to start burning fat storage, that’s what it’s there for, it’s stored for later when you are not eating because the body doesn’t stop using energy ever! We are energy using machines and once we learn how to control which energy we use it really changes the conversation from calories to energy, from calorie restriction to Insulin restriction and that my friends is why my diet has been so much better. Now I understand that I don’t have to be perfect with what I eat I just have to be aware of what certain foods do to the hormones that regulate fat loss!

So with this new found information and the information is ancient it’s just new to my brain, I am continuing to push the boundaries of my own limitations as it concerns losing body fat and being a healthier man. The fasting aspect is completely saving my life every single time I use it because it is allowing my body to do its job and keep me healthy, it’s my job to listen and participate but it is the job of my body to regulate my health! In better terms, I just need to get the hell out of the way and allow my body time to do what it was designed to do. It was designed not to simply keep me alive but it was designed to operate at an optimal level! The body knows what to do, my job is not to muck it up with a lot of things that don’t belong inside of it. The greatest thing is even when I do put horrible things in sometimes it performs the proper procedures to get that toxin out of my system! Information is power my friends and if any of you have any questions about anything please feel free to ask!

Have a fabulous day and I wish you love and happiness this weekend!

Fasting Muscle

Screenshot_20180613-121543.jpg

Happy hump day homies and welcome to my blog one more time! I’m so very thankful for all of the people who take the time to read and follow along this journey with me. The middle of the week crept up on me this time because I’ve been so deep in research and studying that I lost track of my days.lol. I hope you all got some coffee or tea or even a nice glass of wine because it’s about to go down!

Yesterday was a feast day so we made some delicious KFC/KETO version original recipe chicken and it was amazing, although I should have added more pork rinds it was my first attempt so I will have time to tweak it later on! Then, we made my fiance’s bomb low carb chili and lemon bars for dessert. When I say these lemon bars are amazingly delicious I am not kidding around I was completely surprised because of anything with almond flour taste so damn dry to me, however, this recipe was easy and delicious so you already know I’m going to use this one whenever I need to indulge responsibly! I’m telling yall I found me a winner with this new Erythritol I bought on Amazon and if it doesn’t hinder my fat loss it will be my sweetener of choice from here on out! It does have a cooling taste to it but I found when you bake with it that taste goes away, especially when making a crust! I’m giving it a month to see how my fat loss goes while consuming this alternative so I’ll get back with the results but so far I have checked my glucose levels and found that it doesn’t raise my insulin at all! As you know I have been eating off of that taco bake I made earlier in the week so we are really enjoying this meal prepping routine! I still need to find a nice topping for these Lemon bars because while the cool whip was good it wasn’t great so I may try halo top next time I eat to see if ice cream works better! Yum, Yum and more damn Yum.lol

Sadly I didn’t make it to the gym yesterday like I planned and I will admit that every time I change how I fast it takes a moment to get back into my lifting routine. I’m not particularly sure why but it has been a struggle to go lift lately, walking, on the other hand, has been my preferred workout lately and I am certainly building my stamina in that area! The best routine for me is at least 4 times a week lifting but I have been doing more like 2 at the most! Truth is it makes little sense why I can’t do it all considering I don’t have to work right now and the kids are away for a month, so I need to catch back up for real because I can’t use having more time to myself as an excuse not to work out harder, DUH!

Screenshot_20180613-121620.jpg

I’ve decided to up my calories on my feasting days because I have been getting super hungry on my fasting days which is weird because typically hunger comes in waves and I know how it works for me. Usually, I get a huge wave of hunger 3 hours after I feast and then another around the 24 hour mark, I mean I can set my watch by that but lately I have been hungry for longer periods of time even though I am doing the same thing which is drinking tons of water, a couple cups of coffee and if hunger gets worse a hot cup of chicken broth. It’s been fairly easy to do this routine but this week I have been hungry from the 24hr mark on and it doesn’t stop until I go to bed.lol. I did a little research and what I found was not getting enough calories on feast days just makes fasting days seem like an uphill battle and counterproductive, see I’m not trying to starve myself I’m trying to give my digestive system a break and allow my body to utilize stored fat to power my body! This is a lifestyle for me and while I will surely adapt different fasting protocols from time to time, my intent is never to be walking around hungry all the time! I know that’s just not sustainable for the long haul and ya boi is not trying to go backward. My next bit of research with be looking into supplements that may give me a boost to get my workouts in so that I can burn more stored fat on my fasting days.

That’s it for me today, I plan on hitting the gym since I am fasting today and tomorrow get a nice long walk in unless something comes up. I’m a routine type person so I really need to get my flow in the gym back and that’s my focus this week now that my sleep and eating seem to be on point! Persistence over perfection and consistency over intensity all day everyday ya heard me? Have a fantastic rest of the week and I will be back soon, as usual, I am always ready and willing for anyone who needs help or an ear to listen to their journey, the struggle is real but so is our power and together we will get there!

Yummy

Screenshot_20180611-111240.jpg

It’s Monday morning again and you all know what that means, it’s time to do it again once again! Time to dust yourself off from the weekend and head into a new week with vigor and excitement! You get another chance at chasing your dreams and being of service to others. So, let’s get into it really quick so you can get on with your week!

This morning was the first walk of the week and I did it on a day that was made for walking, I mean I really couldn’t have asked for better conditions this morning! The temp was around 68 degrees and clear as soon as I stepped out the Tahoe to start along my path, several joggers and walker were already getting to it and I just put my wireless headphones in and followed suit.lol. I’m getting faster and faster at the route I’m doing now and I think in a week or so I’ll be ready to add on and go further but for now, I’m just trying to stay consistent and focused! Tomorrow I will be lifting, working out my back and biceps. My routine is just to rotate between walking and the gym so hopefully, it will work out to a well-balanced workout and help my endurance raise higher. It’s awesome because I have finally been able to get up at 3 or 3:30 in the morning to lift weights and kickstart my day early! I’ve found that cardio is harder for me than lifting so I should focus on doing it more than strength training until I get more comfortable with the walks and everything.

20180610_100427.jpg20180610_103533.jpg20180610_103642.jpg20180610_103639.jpg

The diet has been phenomenal and delicious as well because I have been meal prepping casseroles so that when I feast I can just grab it and go! Of course, you know me, they have to be easy and delicious and I’m in there even if it means taking more time to make them from scratch. Last week as you all saw I made chili dog cheeseburger casserole and it was super amazing and lasted the whole week, well this week I made taco bake using delicious pork rinds as the tortillas and my gosh this dish turned out perfect for me! Of course, I’ve included pictures. What I dig about this casserole is that it has 5 carbs a serving and I’m talking total carbs not net! This is perfect for keto, contains a great number of healthy fats and of course plenty of protein to boot! I have leftover cauliflower soup as well and some low carb chili my girl made, so I’ll be eating great this week! Although I won’t be eating today because I’m still doing my 3 days of 42-hour fasting and today is a fasting day, but I will be able to break my fast tomorrow morning around this time. My body continues to amaze me with how much it performs for me even after years of giving it horrible food and little to no time to cleanse my system. My whole body feels so much better than before and I credit a large part of that to I.F. and all the support and love I get from the people around me!

Screenshot_20180611-111329.jpg

Since I have been focusing on sleep more I’ve been very pleased with how rested and refreshed I have been felling. Even on days, I don’t get the right amount of sleep I have noticed that the quality of my rest has been very good! Everything hasn’t been perfect but I am truly enjoying the direction my health is going in and I’m excited to see my improvement from day to day! Please have an amazing day and give yourself the love and support you deserve, be kind and gentle and unjudgemental of yourself and know that you are precious and worthy of all that you have achieved and more! Love you all!

One size fits all

Screenshot_20180608-101055.jpg

Hey everyone welcome to the blog! It’s Friday and I just returned from a great walk at my favorite park, thank goodness it was a cool morning I figured it would be super warm.lol. Today, I’m grateful to be awake and enjoying another glorious day! While I was walking I was sweating my ass off but I was determined to make it to my goal point. It’s crazy how much you can do on an empty tummy because I used to be so scared to do anything without eating first! Now, I feel like it’s a great advantage to do fasted workouts and cardio and certainly from a physicals standpoint! Let’s get into the meat real quick!

20180607_152906.jpg

I’m starting to get the feeling that I’m not completely healed from being addicted to sugar, maybe I never will be. The other day we had a cheat meal and I promise you my scale said like 11 pounds up.lol. Now, I understand that was water and all but I also know that body weight fluctuates, still the truth is it’s Friday and I’m still just getting back to my under 500-pound mark. It’s so crazy how much sugar and carbs affect my body and hey I’m not complaining there are much bigger problems in life but I hope that one day a brotha can eat some keto friendly snacks and not gain a whole bunch of damn pounds! It’s just the way it is for me, it took all my life to mess up my metabolism and it’s going to take a long time before I fix it! My diet has been on point yall. Still doing only 2 meals no matter what day it is and the early dinners have really changed the game for me! Every day I drink at least 2 cups of coffee, plus a ton of water with magnesium and potassium supplements to help throughout the day. At this point, it’s getting to be routine and I’m loving that I don’t have to worry about what time or what I’m going to eat. The meal prepping and time restricting has really taken a load off of my shoulders! What a blessing!

20180608_101446.png

The cool things I’m starting to really love is the way it feels when I put my clothes on, I mean my clothes have always been rather baggy but now they are damn near falling off and I need to go buy new stuff! Even better. it’s cool to sit in my truck and not have the steering wheel all up on my tummy.lol. I was doing some side by side comparisons today and even I can see a huge difference. People always tell you things like that but until you can tell it just sounds like people are being nice or trying to encourage you to keep working out and eating better. Results make it all worth it, especially when you know you are doing it the right way for you. I’ve always gone to gyms and worked out at work or any gym I could be a member of but once I figured out that I was just eating all of the benefits that changed everything for me.lol. Keto is certainly not for everyone and to be honest neither is low carb but eating a balanced diet is and being aware of how certain foods affect your goals is a one size fits all way to look at it in my opinion!

Today I need to clean the crib and run a few errands but above everything I need to wash my damn truck, it looks nasty and dingy so I better get to it! You all know that if you need anything please feel free to ask or leave a comment I’m here if you need me, have a fantastic day and a productive weekend fam!

510!

Screenshot_20180527-093024.jpg

Well, good morning strangers and how is everyone this fine Sunday morning? I have certainly been missing a bit here lately but my schedule has been crazy! The truth is that’s still no excuse for not at least checking in and letting you all know how things are going and all. This morning the sun is shining but not too burdensome and the clouds have given enough cover to truly give the day some comfort! I absolutely love days like this because they put my mind at ease and force me to pause and remember how blessed I truly am! I’ve got my coffee with just a splash of sugar-free creamer and nothing else and I’m ready to get started, I hope you have your’s as you read along!

20180521_083538.jpg

As you all remember I was dealing with a bit of a back problem recently, well I’m happy to report that the pain seems to be completely gone and I’m back feeling great down there.lol. You really don’t appreciate how important movement is until it’s restricted! My workout yesterday was really great because I was fasted, going into my 42nd hour of an extended fast actually but I’ll get to that. I did chest and triceps as well as 30 minutes on the stationary bike and it felt awesome! There are several studies about how much better for the body fasted workouts are than the traditional way and while I’m still developing my take on it I will certainly say this; fasted workouts just feel better to my body. There’s nothing like knowing that your body has nothing to burn but your stored body fat that really gets you motivated to really go hard! The cool thing is I have found that I feel better and have better stamina when I go into a workout with an empty stomach! I highly recommend you try it and see how you feel it may be a game-changer for you! So the other day I was talking about my walks to the park and how I wanted to get more cardio from walking around outside the gym. Recently, I have been doing just that, my fiance’ and I have been going to the park together and walking for certain distances and allowing ourselves to get a feel for how far we can go. My goal as I said before is to gradually increase my speed and distance until I can comfortably walk the 5.7 miles around the entire lake! It’s not super far for most people but if I can do that with my size I should lose tons of fat! lol.

My attention to my keto has been razor sharp and I haven’t had even one cheat meal and I have no plans at all of ending this focus any time soon! I’ve been keeping my carbs under 50 and that’s total carbs daily because I don’t subtract fiber for the time being. I have also raised my healthy fat intake to a higher level and that has made all the difference. My green smoothies are back and I have been having at least one large one a day with my 2 meals. I’d say 95% of my carbs come from kale, spinach or romaine lettuce and only the other 5% is made up from other sources such as sausage or low carb dressings and sauces. My first meal is typically around 9 a.m. and my last one is usually no later than 3 p.m. and for some reason, this early meal time works really well for me and I don’t feel as hungry as I have in the past! Tonight I will be making my first attempt at a low carb cauliflower soup that I have been wanting to try for a long time and I will certainly blog about it when I’m done. I have also been drinking some homemade cold brew coffee and I really love the taste and flavor plus it’s an awesome switch from the norm!

I recently joined I.D.M. which stands for Intensive Dietary Management and it’s headed by Doctor Jason Fung and Megan Ramos. I have long been a fan of both and I wanted more information on fasting and the use of it for fat loss and long-term health. It’s a free membership trial so I figured I have nothing to lose because if it’s not worth it I’ll simply cancel. What I have found is that the fasting routine that has been working for me is 3 42 hour fasts on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays! First off, I never thought I could fast this long at all and some people do a lot longer fasts but I’m finding these are just challenging enough for me! What’s cool is the support groups inside the community are really awesome and knowledgeable, which makes everything so much easier! Yall already know I’m not sponsored by them or anyone else so you can trust that it just may work for you if you need help with your journey, it can’t hurt to check it out.lol. Since doing the fasting I’ve already dropped several pounds of fat, which brings me to my announcement that as of Friday I am officially down to 510! I’m very excited about this because you all know I have been kind of struggling lately with my fat loss slowing down! I’m praying that my consistent fasting along with my low carb eating will continue to provide the desired results!

20180525_105703.jpg

Please enjoy the extended weekend and keep on keeping it going! I’m proud of all of you for all that you do to better yourselves and I’m always here to help if anyone needs anything!

The Decision to change

Screenshot_20180519-122106.jpgHello and happy Saturday morning to everyone! I have been super busy lately but I wanted to drop in and see how everyone was doing! It’s an overcast day here which is fine because it has been super hot here in Ky. lately! Don’t get me wrong I’ll take this over snow and rain every day in a heartbeat! I pray that you all have been doing well and chasing your dreams. I haven’t posted since Monday and it fills like an eternity for me because I’m used to posting at least 3 days a week. Let’s sit down, grab a fresh cup and let it do what it do!

20180502_152041.jpg

The gym has been a challenge lately with all the change and trying to figure out a new workout program. When you have gotten into a good rhythm with your workout it’s hard to change it up without feeling a little letdown. I’ve been going heavier weights but I notice I don’t seem to be feeling that sense of satisfaction of knowing that I gave everything I have. When lifting heavy I’m so worried about the proper form that I’m not doing as much because I want to avoid injury. So I’ve decided to just go back to my regular routine and just move up in weight progressively until I get comfy in the higher weights. The other change is I am doing more walking outdoors for stamina. To make it challenging I have been picking a distance and making myself do more and more each week so that I can get used to carrying my weight for long distances. I figure if your my size you should use your weight as an advantage and while I’m walking I know I burn tons more calories than the average person.lol. For now, I’m doing my walks 3 days a week and doing 1 session of cardio in the gym with machines just to change up the pace. I’ve been bringing my camera along and taking pictures so you know I’ll be sharing as I go on more and more walks.

Screenshot_20180519-122027.jpg

I have been really examining my diet closely as well and I feel like I can do a lot better with limiting my carbs and adding back in more green leafy veggies like back in the day. I’ve been doing Carnivore Keto and while I dig the quicker fat loss I’m finding that my body doesn’t feel as good as when I have my smoothies and salads. So I’m bringing back my smoothies and salads! lol. The grocery haul this week includes my good ole friend cauliflower which I will be using to give my eating routine some more flavor. I also bought some magnesium citrate and some lite salt to make some Ketoaide to help with my fasting. This week I’m thinking of having more chicken and vegetable casseroles and a few vegetarian dishes because I have been eating a good amount of meat but maybe not enough healthy fats. I love delicious food and it certainly helps to have a way of eating that allows you to eat the foods you already love but after a while, the palate wants more and I will give it what it wants! If any of you have been making some great recipes that are low carb I would love to hear from you, I get so many great ideas by following some of you on Instagram!

I wanted to end the blog writing about a topic I am passionate about. The decision to change! The journey to health and wellness is certainly a difficult one at times. It will truly test your patience and resolve. You will have days and even weeks when you just don’t have it and you miss a scheduled workout. There will be times when you eat food you know is completely against your diet. Further, there will be mood swings and real-life situations that will have you all in your feelings as it’s called. Just keep in mind that when you have changed those times will not beat you because you will get back. When you have made the decision to change your next meal after 2 weeks of binging will be the healthiest one you could make. When you make the decision to change it is important to remember that you don’t stop being change because you slip up or stumble, no! no! no!  When you make the decision to change, YOU ARE CHANGE! Change takes over and it will bring you back to good, back to where you have decided you want to be, this is precisely why change requires so much because once you have made that decision, you BECOME that CHANGE.

CHANGE IS INSIDE OF YOU!

YOU ARE CHANGE

I AM CHANGE

WE ARE CHANGE

I believe in each and every one of you just like I believe in me and I know that we all can be who we want to be, how we want to be! Have a great day homies!

BUSY BUSY

Screenshot_20180509-183442.jpg

Well hello, everyone and Happy Humpday to each and every single one of you! It’s Wednesday, the middle of the week and I’m praying that all of you are killing your goals! The other end of the week is fast approach and that means you will have a break soon and enjoy the sun! We have had amazing weather here in the Southeast of late and I for one am thankful for a few sunny days! So here we go….

Screenshot_20180509-183634.jpg

I didn’t get to workout yesterday or today because of our family schedule which really bumped me out but I have backloaded my workouts to go from Thursday all the way to Sunday with no days off. It seems like a lot but I have certainly done it before, the most important thing is I get the goal accomplished. I did, however, stay very busy with lots of shopping and errands and bills to take care of so I was by no means lazy.lol. I’ve decided that I will be doing my daily walks at the local Veterans Park we have here in E-town. It’s really pretty and they just recently made a small replica of the Vietnam memorial in D.C. The whole thing has a group of hiking trails plus a long smooth family-friendly walkway around for anyone to use. So I will be combining the walks with the cardio machine to boost my daily cardio to an hour but I will still be doing strength training 4 days a week just heavy lifts with fewer reps.

One of the reasons I missed the gym is because we have been making some Low carb meals and pairing them with wine! This week we prepared a stuffed pork tenderloin with bacon and cauliflower hash. Now I must admit it was really good, it was drier than I would have liked so I will definitely be using my slow cooker next time with a marinade! The family loved it but I can’t really do meat that gets too dry so there’s that. The wine we got was from Cupcake and I’ve been a fan of this wine for a bit and when my mother reintroduced it to me on my trip I had to get my hands on a bottle. I went for the Cabernet Sauvignon because I figured it would pair well with the pork, which was a sound choice because man did it ever taste amazing with dinner. It’s fairly cheap at like 8.99 a bottle, now before you make a face I said fairly because I’m just really getting my wine game up and I saw wines for like 2 and 3 dollars there.lol. I’m just speaking the real because when it’s that low I have no idea if it’s gonna be good or just colored sugar water. So I’m happy the wine didn’t disappoint and we certainly finished the bottle. I made some baked chicken but the wine wasn’t needed because I mean it’s chicken yall!

Since I been home I have certainly had some things to think about for the future. The thoughts have been very optimistic and happy! I’m very blessed to have the ability to chase my dreams and know I have a family that has my back! I truly hope every one of you truly appreciates the everyday blessing going on around you! Thank all of you for allowing me your time today to read about my stuff, have a great day and I’ll be back tomorrow for my favorite day of the week.
