O.k so I know this is out of nowhere because I never really blog on Saturdays at all and with it being the first real college football day it’s even more shocking! This morning I had to get up and just share a few things that have been on my mind and then I will let you all get back to enjoying your god given weekend in peace! lol

This morning I am officially 490 and that’s just 2 pounds off my lowest ever so I’m really happy about that! Even more incredible is that I have battled with my fat loss stall for so long now it seems like that my patience has truly been strained and taken to the absolute max some days. It’s not the times that are unexplainable when my number doesn’t go down it’s the days and weeks I know I have had a meal that will set me back and I go ahead and do it anyway. It’s really not the one meal but when you are an addict that one meal is always followed by a second and a third of bad choices that send me down a dark path! To be honest, I’m completely aware that my body has a really hard time dealing with grains and sugar, especially together( like when we have Chinese food). Having this knowledge is powerful but I’m learning is just the first step and the real work comes in the moment, those tiny decisions that you make alone when no one is looking that make or break us. 490 feels great because I have no intentions of having any reward for my progress that involves food! 450 is the goal I need to hit before my trip and I’ve set October 13th as the day to hit even though I don’t actually leave till the following week!

Today marks the 5th day on the Carnivore version of Keto and I really am loving the way I feel when I eat this way. I never feel bloated or lethargic after having a meal and I still feel like I’m eating plenty of food but not stuffing myself. The challenge is to remember to add good healthy fats to my meats because I love meat so much by itself that I often forget to add fat for the fullness and health benefit! The best girl in the game made me some hamburger patties and some leftover pork roast for my feast today and I can’t wait! When you’re eating such a limited food menu it is very important to have foods that you truly enjoy and also to have all types of different meats. I’ll be honest it will be tough for me to eat the organ meats out there but I will give it a try if it means staying consistent and on target!

I told my girl I was quitting the gym and she didn’t want to hear it! She told me that just because I am doing more bodyweight movements doesn’t mean I should limit the options I have to work out. She said that the gym is good in case you get a little injured or need a change of pace and she made a few other good points about waiting till we move and building my home gym! If I haven’t stressed it enough this fat loss journey cannot be done individually you must have some aces on your team who not only support you but challenge your opinions with their own, I’m very blessed to have her in my life and I don’t ever take a moment for granted because I know everyone doesn’t have a bonafide ride or die like I do!

As I type this I’m coming up on the 40th hour of my 42 hour fast, the last one of the week and last night was really rough! It’s not that I was hungry but when you fast sometimes you have a weird energy surge and you just can’t fall asleep. I mean I meditated and watched football and even an episode of Two and a Half Men and still I had problems getting to sleep! The quality of sleep is fantastic but damn it doesn’t take a minute and it always seems to be on Fridays my last 42 hour fast that it is the worst, I’m not sure why! You all have heard me say it before and I’ll keep saying that Keto was the biggest change that I made in my fat loss journey but Fasting is by far the most powerful thing I have ever done when it comes to this journey! It has simple helped me to be mindful and patient and while I’m not perfect by any means, it has taught me that my body needs times of fasting to help heal my body and that’s been the biggest most powerful revelation in this journey! (outside of God that is!) If any of you ever need any advice or help to get into the practice of fasting I am always willing to help, I truly believe it has the power to change the world!

Have a wonderful and relaxing weekend and thank you so very much for reading this!

Black Thumb!

I was super late blogging today because I was too busy running I have decided that I am going to start growing my own green leafy veggies in the house! I’m really very excited about this because I wasn’t aware that it was possible to do so. While researching on youtube the other day I stumbled on this method of growing plants in little styrofoam cups and I was in disbelief! I’m thinking since I eat tons of greens if this method works out then I’m going to get a little setup and a grow light and start growing my food. Now I know you all are thinking that he might start growing that sticky green stuff but I assure you all while I’m not against it I don’t use it because I have kids in the house and I don’t want them to be influenced by my decision. I’ll say this once they move out I’m snoop dogging it up in here So today I got my soil and seeds and cups and I planted my first little garden!

Yesterday……. all my troubles seem so far away. These lyrics by Lennon are so very profound because honestly I was doing great until last night and then I decided to eat a whole bunch of stupid stuff. The problem was that I was super thirsty and I think I mistook that for hunger and started eating all kind of candy and I even had fudge! I never have fudge. Haha. It was really dumb because I fasted and I had a great workout and everything and then I beeped it up binging. It happens I know but I just think it’s silly when I don’t get enough sleep and I don’t drink enough water. I’m too damn grown for all of that. I’ve forgiven myself, not because there’s anything wrong with eating like that every once in awhile but for messing up my routine. I’m such a creature of habit and I just can’t handle the same amount of leeway other people can without having a major collapse. It’s just how I work. So today I am fasting for over 24 hours to reset myself and then I’ll hit the gym and that will help me feel better about my progress. I just can’t afford any dumb eating decisions right now, I have huge goals for my weight loss this year!

I notice that by going to the gym I have a ton more energy to do other stuff. The extra energy is great I just have to be careful because if I do too much than the family will expect me to participate in way more I’m kidding but seriously it feels great to not be as limited by low energy. Even as I write this post my energy level is sky high. It may be because I’m so excited about my little garden experiment. Can you guys imagine this huge overweight black man dancing around his garden with a water spray bottle?! My gosh, I have issues! The most thrilling thing in the world for me is to learn new things and I’m like a 5 year old at his own birthday party about to open gifts! Of course, I’ll let you all know how the gardening goes and if any of you have any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

I salute you for taking time out to read this and I wish you a fantastic and joyful day!

King Meat

Well, there is good news and better news. The good news is I listened to my body and how sore my biceps felt and decided not to lift last night. The better news is I still managed to get my 10k steps in, so at the very least I have done something to burn calories and feel better! I’m telling you my arms were just not trying to do the simplest of task yesterday so I had to shut it down. It’s easy to forget I just got into the damn gym and I need to give my body time to adjust. The problem sometimes with a gym fee is you feel like if your paying for it you need to get the most out of it and you can sometimes overdo it. This morning my arms feel grateful that I let them rest and I’ll be at full strength to get my 4th workout in on Sunday, which I believe is New Year’s Eve! Happy New year everyone!

Interesting how things are rolling right along on the eating front! Yesterday I had a fantastic mix of Chinese cabbage and Romain lettuce accompanied by my homemade low sugar french dressing! I can’t really say it’s my recipe because I looked it up on youtube but I can say that homemade salad dressing is super easy and absolutely better than the store-bought version! Anyway, I chopped up a few delicious green onions in my salad bowl with my cup of delicious pork rinds and added some chicken to it! Let me just say not only was it delicious but it kept a big man like me full for awhile. So full in fact, that I was able to not eat any meat at all for my second meal of the day and that’s huge for me because as you know meat is King in my kitchen. The second meal was simply Bulletproof coffee, sunflower seeds and some sugar-free pudding that totally satisfied my taste buds. The best thing is my carbs were below 50g so that’s the win-win for me!

My fiance’ and I have been kicking around the idea of creating a cookbook of our favorite recipes, low carb of love the idea of us doing something together that would help others as well as allow me to stay on track with my healthy lifestyle. The more I think about it the more I’m wondering if I need to make different versions of the same recipe to fit multiple lifestyles. I would love some feedback from you guys if you have any ideas that may help. I don’t think we are interested in selling the recipes but just putting some together as a resource we could use as we go along. Please let me know if you have any thoughts on the matter because I am by no means a cooking expert and certainly not the most knowledgeable in terms of fresh ingredients but I’m very willing to learn.

I’ll wrap up by saying that I have found great strength and inspiration from my blogging community and I am so very thankful. I have been working on a Facebook community for followers of a low carb/Keto diet Alexx’s Keto Avenue and if you’re interested please feel free to join! Have a fantastic day and thank you so very much for reading!

Bedroom Olympics

Another glorious Friday is upon us and I feel great! Despite being ridiculously cold and rigid outside the amazing sun has made its presence felt and that means everything to for me. There’s something about working at my computer with coffee perking in the background and the sun beaming thru the blinds that just makes it impossible to have a bad day!

I changed it up a little because of the schedule at home so I had to do my workout late last night instead of my usual middle of the night routine. The gym was still fairly empty so I managed to work my chest and triceps with few interruptions. This may be completely selfish but I absolutely love having the gym all to myself. Besides having my pick of any piece of equipment, it makes me feel like I’m working out while my old self would be laying in bed eating all kinds of bad food and being unproductive. My arms are still sore from doing curls from my last workout and it was difficult to finish last night but hey it’s not supposed to always be easy right?

After having to swallow the shame of my girl being right, my eating has really been super easy. I made fathead pizza for dinner and I consumed a huge salad for my lunch. These obese salads are really amazing because I can put so many different varieties of nutrients in them. Yesterday I had half green leaf and half Chinese cabbage and it was very yummy!  My carbs stayed super low at about 34g, so I’ll take that and be extremely happy. I did tons of shopping yesterday and it was so funny how my grocery cart has changed. When I’m pushing that bad boy these days it’s like I went plant shopping or something because It’s just heaping with greens and veggies. For me, that’s a major accomplishment because I really love my meats and processed foods. Like I said, I’ll always be an addict to those types of foods and while I still eat meat I hardly ever even buy processed foods with the exception of my oils and such. My body is so happy to be back on the foods it’s become accustomed to that literally I feel like I lost 10 pounds last night as if my body was saying “let’s reward his get back with a little hyper weight loss”.lol. I hope that’s the case because I don’t do scales even though I probably should!

That’s all I have for today other than to say I will be working out again tonight because of schedule and I’m fine with it. There’s always an excuse to not workout but what I’m learning is if you look at it there’s always an excuse to go as well. You’re not going to lose a ton of weight by working out but you can feel better and certainly add to all the healthy benefits of your eating you have been doing. It’s also a great excuse to just get out of the house and do something that you can honestly say you did for you. Exercise is the one area that it’s really o.k to be selfish with. Of course, you can and should have self-love without it but if it adds to your overall feeling of joy and satisfaction you should do it. If however, you hate to exercise but you know you need it simply do things around the house or at work to maximise your fat burning. Exercise doesn’t require you to make a huge plan and join a gym if that’s not your thing, the amazing thing about it is you can do a wide variety of things to get your body moving. Don’t call it exercise if you don’t like, call it something else like Training for the bedroom Olympics or Whatever it takes to get you going right?

Take this weekend and enjoy your life, read a book, take a walk with your loved one or catch a play! Make some memories that make you smile!

The Plan!

I believe that the plan has now been set in motion. We have been living in Elizabethtown for about 4 months now and it took a little time to get adjusted. This move has positively affected my fitness goals for the coming future and it feels great. I’ve decided to join the gym I talked about in past posts! The facilities have several pieces of equipment that are tailor-made for larger individuals. They have tons of different activities that come with the membership and they even have swimming pools! I really feel like it’s all slowly coming together. The tool shed is full and I have a huge arsenal to battle my excess fat!

The reason I named this Keto avenue is because this is the route that I will be taking to achieve my long-term goals. A ketogenic diet is a lifelong approach for me to lose unwanted fat and to maintain a healthy lifestyle once I have reached my goal weight. I plan to be on this way of eating for the remainder of my existence on this earth. While my initial goal is fat loss, the other benefits of this way of eating such as anti-aging and insulin control are my down the line goals. Since starting this way of dieting have not found that it is easy at all. What I have found is that I have a better chance of sticking to a higher fat, moderate protein, low carb diet for the long run. The foods I’m able to eat don’t make me feel like I’m being forced to eat anything that I just don’t like. Tons of people can force themselves to endure that but I cannot.

I’ve got a Planner! My fiance’ bought me a fitness planner so I could sit down and plan out my attack on excess fat! This thing is so cool. Don’t get me wrong, I seriously had to check my manhood on the front page because my planner, like an overwhelming majority of others, was designed for a female! I mean there’s stickers and glitter and a few features that forced me to remind myself that I am indeed a man. I can’t front because I really do love this thing, I mean I can see myself looking back later after I’ve conquered each phase and smiling at how far I have come! I’m not sure that I will be counting calories but I’m going to try to stay under a certain daily amount. This Planner is just another tool that will help me and I’m very thankful to have it at my disposal!

For the past several months I have been tweaking and trying different approaches to Fasting and Keto and I believe I have a great plan to follow. The gym and the Planner will only strengthen my efforts. It’s all coming together for me and now I just need to put it all together to generate the best me possible! I will be sharing just about everything along my journey. My up and downs, my victories and losses, all in an attempted to not only gain balance in my life but to help others who share my particular struggle. This blog will always be a place where everyone and their opinions are welcome.I want to be better! I will be better! I am extremely aware that it will take more than my best efforts, more than the support of my friends and loved ones. It will require people such as yourself that are following and have valuable insight that I may have overlooked. I definitely need all the help I can get and that’s why I want to be of service to others. Together we can be more powerful than we ever imagined! I truly believe that!

The gym officially starts Monday!

I’ve said it so many times and I’ll mention it again and again your likes and input are always welcomed! I am humbled that you took the time to read this and any other post I write in the near future! You are appreciated.

Like I posted yesterday I been thinking about joining a gym.  So Thursday morning after I did some writing and shopping I visited my neighborhood gym. I have to admit I was very impressed with the layout of the facilities! Not only do they have indoor and outdoor swimming pools but they have very up to date cardio equipment, above average free weights as well as water Aerobics! I will say I wasn’t surprised by the cost. They charge a lot of money for the use of their club. We’re talking a down payment of at least the value of my youngest child! I’m kidding of course but you get my point.

I’m aware that you can’t put a price on your health and well being but the administration at this club can! You may get in great physical shape only to have a Cardiac event when you pay your membership each month! So I had it in my head that we couldn’t afford to join until I saw the Jacuzzi!

The thought of lounging in those wonderful jet-propelled bubbles after a hard workout had me seriously leaning towards a membership.  Hell, damn a workout I could just use the Jacuzzi every other day; workout optional, ya heard me? Lol.

So I decided that since I am the man of the house, the strong alpha dog that talks and sh*t happens, I did the only thing a real kingfish would do. I asked my girl if it was o.k to join and she is going to get back to me later!

NOT to worry my friends I am happy to report that no matter what we(I mean she) decides) I will be sticking to some form of cardio and strength training workout! These goals aren’t going to accomplish themselves!
MY adventures in Keto eating have been very successful. I was under my calories today and managed to even have a sweet and delicious treat. The fast breaker today was pork chops with a side of almond string beans! I’ve posted this before but please guys do yourself a favor, go get some of these frozen steamer veggies! They are so freaking delicious and easy! You just pop them in the microwave and 7 mins later you have hassle-free healthy sides to go with your protein and fats! They are like a dollar a piece at my neighborhood Kroger and they are a lazy cooks dream! Go get ’em I’m telling you they are game changers for sure.

And then there were the pork chops for lunch OMG!!!

Now I told you I made a sweet little snack that would help with my ever-present sweet tooth and here we go! I included the recipe. Take my word for it if you’re on the go and you need a quick fix, just stash these puppies in little ziplock bags! I put them in the little compartment between the front seat of my truck. They are amazing!  Slow Cooked Candied Pecans!

  • 1 c. Stevia or Truvia
  • 1 tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. kosher salt
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • Cooking spray, for slow-cooker
  • 6 c. pecans

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together sugars, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In another medium bowl, combine egg whites and vanilla. Whisk until frothy.
  3. Spray slow-cooker with non-stick cooking spray. Add pecans to the Crock-Pot. Pour egg white mixture over pecans and stir until coated. Pour sugar mixture over and stir again until pecans are fully coated.
  4. Cook on low for 3 hours, stirring every half hour. If sugar isn’t dissolving, add water 1 tablespoon at a time. When finished, remove nuts from slow-cooker and cool in a single layer. Serve.

As usual, you are encouraged to like and share! You are very appreciated and your voice is most welcome here! Have a Peaceful and Comfortable Friday ya’ll!
